West Virginia

The K-State women's volleyball team was back in action again on Wednesday night travel all the way to Morgantown to take on the Mountaineers a few days after the football team lead by Heisman frontrunner Collin Klein just ran through the football team did. And Kansas State took care of business like the football team did by sweeping West Virginia in striaght sets 25-15, 25-16, and 25-19. It is the Wildcats 15th sweep this season led by Lilla Porubek who had a career night with 4 aces. Courtney Traxson continued her excellent play adding in 8 kills. Alex Muff on the defensive side had 6 total blocks and five assists along with it. And, Kaitlynn Pelger had five blocks. Cats' started hot and pretty much never slowed down against West Virginia. Last weekend the Wildcats defeated the Red Raiders and now winners of two striaght games. On Saturday, K-State returns to Ahearn Fieldhouse to take on the Baylor Bears at 7pm. Chapter #41 Kansas State Volleyball : Week #6 Texas

#9 Texas
Last time we left off the Kansas State volleyball was in the middle of an important homestand with on Last Saturday when they took on Texas. Coming into this game, the Longhorns where ranked #9 in the mation coming into a packed house at Ahern but at the end the 'Cats didn't put away Texas in the seconf set and that ended costing them the entire match. Texas sweeped the Kansas State 17-25, 28-30, and 15-25. Texas depth was the key in the match wearing down the Wildcats after playing really hard to win set #2 could not get control of the momentum. Kaitlynn Pelger for K-State had another great great but it wasn't meant to be this time around with 19 kills in the game. Alex Muff and Kuulei Kabalis had good games on the defensive end for the 'Cats. Nest game will be at TCU one of the newset members of the Big 12 on Saturday at 1pm.

Chapter #40: Intermission

Taking a break from writing my weekly blog post for volleyball and finally talking about something else...at least for a little bit and talk about what's up in the world of radio for the first half of the fall semester. Before I can do that I will do a little recap on the K-State volleyball team who done some great things already this season even though they just lost to Texas earlier this evening. Still got some things to work on, but they are right there in the mix for the Big 12 title race led by their best player junior Kaitlynn Pelger.

School with the combination of radio for The Wildcat 91.9 has been SUPER busy this semester. By far, the busiest semester since I been here at Kansas State it's been sometimes tiring but it's been fun. There are just a couple of issues outside of school that I need to take care of but other than that it's time to turn up heat a little bit here and work hard in pretty much everything weather it's in the classroom or not. Each day has it's challenges you just got to take it one day at a time. School is racking up quickly with a ton of big essays, reading, reading, and more reading. I feel like I have been reading over 100 books and we are only halfway, lol. Also, group projects...I have 3 of those not that I am complaining or anything like that but I'm at that stage where work is piling up and you just have to deal with it and try to do the best you can that's all you can ask for. Radio this semester has been fun once again! I feel blessed for this opportunity to work with a lot of awesome people. From hanging out with the staff people which I feel like are the best people that I can possibly have to other students at the station who have made their mark this year and helping them out as well. Enjoy the Purple Power Play earlier this semester getting prepared for the college football season for K-State. To hanging out with some of my favorite friends on staff Jen, Elijah and Caitlin. I have also spent some time with a few more people Krystal, Mike, Katie, Dan and more. This month is big and special for me in just a few weeks I have big weekend in store...more on that in the next blog post ahead.

Oklahoma Trip
Haha, 3 weeks ago I went down to Norman, Oklahoma with some of the sports staff and some of the sports staff from the Collegian as well. That was a fun trip with those and it had a little bit of everything in it. Lucky for all of us we got along really went. The trip down there had it's moments for sure guys been well you guys but K-State ended up knocking off #4 Oklahoma that weekend...oh and wee managed to park behind someone house after not evening getting a parking pass, lol. I was a little worried about that but at the end it didn't matter because we won the game. Got back to Manhattan between 5:30 and 6 in the morning, whoooo...

Until next time,

Chapter 39: K-State Volleyball Recap: Week #5

Baylor

Last weekend, the Kansas State volleyball team snapped a four game road losing streak to the Baylor Bears last Saturday afternoon in Waco (Sept 29). Kaitlynn Pelger had one of her best matches of the season to this point. The Wildcats defeated Baylor 18-25, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-16. Courtney Traxson played her best game of the year, shy from her personal best game for K-State. Traxson came off the bench for Suzie Fritz team and provided a huge spark for the Cats' when they needed it most. Had 10 kills on the night, meanwhile senior Caitlyn Donahue had 55 assists in this game two shorts of her best. Other highlights for K-State Kuuiel Kabalis had a career high in digs with 17. Torri Campbell and Laura Jones for Baylor led the way in kills but it was not enough for the Bears to overtake the Wildcats.

#22 Iowa State
Kaitlynn Pelger came into this game coming off another player of the week award from last weekend's action. Another plus for Pelger, she and her teammates came out and stunned the #22 ranked Iowa State in striaght sets at Ahern Fieldhouse on Wednesday night (Oct 3). Pelger led the way with 5 kills along with 6 swings, Alex Muff and Lilla Porubek also helped the Cats against the Cyclones. Kansas State came into this contest ranked #14 and right from the start just took it to the Cyclones who had no answer all night long. Iowa State had an oppurtunity to seal the second sets but the 'Cats rallied back to steal the set and pretty much closed the door on Iowa State for the match. Kansas State with the sweep 25-15. 27-25, and 25-17. The Wildcats move to 16-1 on the year and 3-1 in the Big 12 with #9 Texas coming to Manhattan on Saturday night. This will be the biggest test for K-State to see if they can contend for the Big 12 title. Game at Ahern Fieldhouse starts at 7pm Saturday night.
